Overcoming the disconnect between energy system and climate modeling

Energy system models underpin decisions by energy planners and operators. modeling faces a transformation: accounting for changing meteorological conditions imposed climate change. To enable that transformation, community of practice in energy-climate has started to form aims better integrate with weather models. Here, we evaluate the disconnects between communities, then lay out research agenda bridge those disconnects. In near-term, propose interdisciplinary activities expediting uptake future data modeling. long-term, transdisciplinary approach development (1) energy-system-tailored datasets historical (2) can effectively leverage datasets. This increases odds meeting ambitious mitigation goals systematically capturing mitigating risk sector decision-making.
